How Did Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement® Evolve?
The Method developed by Moshe Feldenkrais is the platform from which Anat Baniel Method NeuroMovement has evolved.
Anat Baniel’s studies and her work with Moshe Feldenkrais have had a profound impact on her thinking and practice.
Following in the spirit of Moshe Feldenkrais, Anat has continued to explore, discover, and develop her own highly effective system of movement and learning. Her Method is validated by current brain plasticity research and has transformed thousands of lives in ways often considered not possible.
Moshe Feldenkrais: Teacher, Mentor, Colleague, and Friend
“Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais was the greatest thinker in the 20th Century on how to improve movement and action. He was well ahead of his time in his understanding that the brain can change itself for the better throughout life, thus providing the opportunity to exponentially improve skill and well-being.” ~Anat Baniel
When Anat was five years old, she watched Dr. Feldenkrais teach movement lessons in her parents’ living room. He was experimenting with his new ideas and discoveries. She began doing his movement lessons with her dance teacher when she was seven.
In her early 20’s, while studying to become a clinical psychologist, Anat looked for a method that would go beyond “talk therapy.” She wanted to include direct experience of movement, sensation, and awareness of one’s body in the work she was doing. Recalling her childhood experiences with Dr. Feldenkrais’ movement lessons, she looked him up.
In addition to being Anat’s teacher and mentor, Moshe Feldenkrais became Anat’s close friend, as well as colleague. While continuing her graduate studies, Anat traveled the world with Dr. Feldenkrais, teaching with him, and for him, and sharing their work with clients.
From Feldenkrais Method to Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement®
From the beginning, Anat experimented daily, exploring different ways of working with clients, observing dramatic and often remarkable results. Anat always assumed that these transformations were due to changes in the brain.
This continual inquiry led her to define her 9 Essentials. Anat also realized that to help make the impossible possible, we need to stop trying to “fix” the problem or the person. We need to shift from “fixing” to connecting. Click here to learn about from fixing to connecting.
Dr. Feldenkrais always encouraged Anat to find her own voice.
He was adamant that Anat do the work in her own distinct way, which allowed her to develop Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement®.
Anat Baniel Method® Evolves Over Decades of Transformational Outcomes
“Anat Baniel has evolved to a point that few can match, let alone surpass.”
The Anat Baniel Method® evolved out of Anat’s three decades of breakthrough work and transformational outcomes with adults and with children who have special needs.
Anat Baniel’s work with thousands of children and adults, along with training hundreds of practitioners, gave her the opportunity to figure out fundamental, underlying principles of positive brain change. She was able to draw conclusions about how the brain works, conclusions that are validated by the last 20 years of neuroplasticity research.
Anat’s lifelong inquiry led to the development of Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement® and its 9 Essentials, that now form the foundation of this powerful Method.
