Fullerton Local Story: Jennifer Stacks and Her Daughter Analiese

Analiese was diagnosed in vitro at 33 weeks with a rare chromosome disorder called Trisomy 9 Mosaicism when her growth began to slow. We (or my OBGYN) had never heard of this before and we had no way of knowing what Analiese might face after birth. Although genetics did not find the trisomy in her blood, they did say if she did not begin to meet her milestones then it likely resides in her skin, her largest organ, including the brain. Meeting her milestones was painfully slow. She did not start walking until 3. Her vestibular system was affected and her balance was unstable. She was very apprehensive to get around in her world as she lacked the confidence as to what her body could or could not do.

We were referred by a friend to Anat Baniel and I signed up for the Children with Special Needs workshop, driving to Arizona from So. Cal. Neuromovement and the Anat Baniel Method has been the best thing I have ever done with my life. I did not realize my life and body would be transformed in the process of trying to help my daughter.

I began to get intensive lessons for my daughter, and after each one, we noticed both subtle and notable changes. She started to walk more organized, her balance began to improve, her footing became more solid and she got chattier. Her cognition continues to improve; she knows about 30 signs, can say 6 words (is chatting regularly and making good strides with her speech therapist). She is communicating her needs really well. She is now running all the time, it may not be perfect yet but she’s doesn’t care, she’s getting there. She has the confidence now that she was lacking, her fine and gross motor skills have really improved this last year, along with her nervous system.

I graduated from the ABM Basic Training in June and have a year of Children’s Mastery to go. I feel so privileged to be part of this work and to help others as well as my own family and friends. I never intended for this training to become a career but now can’t see myself doing anything else. Anything else would pale in comparison.

The Anat Baniel Method uses the Nine Essentials which are tools that help us become more aware of how we can maximize our potential in our own lives and our children’s lives.

My daughter is a very happy little girl, she loves all people and animals unconditionally; she is a beautiful spirit and teaches me new things every day. Our lives are filled with hope and the possibilities are endless. We find the joy in each day, in the little and big things. I’ve stopped trying to “fix” her, which in turn, allows her to flourish.

Anat Baniel’s breakthrough methods with children with special needs are recognized and applauded by parents, health professionals, and those at the cutting edge of the neurosciences. Her techniques are being enthusiastically endorsed by leading brain scientists, medical doctors, and others in the helping professions.

She has developed a science-based approach that focuses on the child’s brain and its remarkable abilities to change and learn. She uses gentle movements and a carefully developed set of Nine Essentials together to help children with special needs to overcome their limitations.

“With this gentle approach we do not focus on the child’s limitations,” she says. “Rather than try to force children into developmental milestones they are not ready to do successfully, we carefully wake up the child’s brain to create new connections, often at a staggering rate, leading to spontaneous, often extraordinary breakthroughs in movement, thinking, self-regulation, and connection with others.”

Baniel believes that the greatest potential for transformation, though often difficult to grasp, is not in trying to make children do what they can’t, but in finding ways to help each child’s brain differentiate and spontaneously discover how to go beyond his or her limitations.
