An ABM Practitioner Shares Her Transformation
A Personal Story from Ann
While our Professional Training Programs are geared towards people who are committed to learning the Anat Baniel Method and becoming Practitioners of the Method, our trainees all experience profound transformation in themselves. So much so, that each and every one of our graduates always says that even though they came to the training to become practitioners, as important, if not more so for them, is who they have become as people. Ann’s story is one beautiful example.
As I get immersed in the Vitality and Anti-Aging training, I find myself wanting to share something with you.
When we first met at the workshop at the “ashram” (Kripalu) exactly four years ago this week, I was in terrible pain and feeling very hopeless about the quality of my life. I felt that many of the activities I enjoyed had been taken from me because of my limited movement and pain.
With your encouragement, I took a leap and came to CA for some lessons and then took an even bigger leap and enrolled in the training. I remember when I introduced myself to the group at the first segment I said that I hoped that someday I would be able to play tennis again, something I have done since childhood, but I don’t really think I ever expected it to happen.
I am so excited to tell you that in the last month I have begun playing tennis again!
It has been such a thrill to be able to do it, and I know that you and ABM have played a huge role in at least two respects. First, with this work I continue to improve the ease and quality of my movement which has obviously helped with tennis and everything else in my life. But possibly more importantly, the process I have gone through has changed me such that I am now not afraid to try to play again, unwilling to accept that “at my age” I should expect pain and immobility, and flexible enough in my expectations that I am happy with a tennis game that looks quite different from the one I used to play 20 years and six knee surgeries ago.
ABM has also given me a whole new approach to attempting to regain my tennis skills—I am practicing more slowly, paying attention to how I move, trying intentional variations, being VERY flexible about my goals, and finding joy in every small improvement. I find the whole process much more fun and engaging than the way I used to play.

As I look back on the past four years, I see how each seemingly small change has aggregated with others over time to help me find myself again and have a much fuller life and brighter outlook on the future, both on and off the tennis court!
