Evolution of the Anat Baniel Method 2017-09-27T23:49:16+00:00

The Anat Baniel Method℠ (ABM) original and highly effective NeuroMovement® approach has evolved from her background in clinical psychology, dance, sciences (statistics), her extensive study and close collaboration with Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, and her 30 years of professional experience in her own thriving, highly successful practice, and training thousands of future practitioners.

Anat Baniel’s studies and work with Dr. Feldenkrais have had a profound impact on her thinking and practice. The Feldenkrais Method is the platform from which the ABM has evolved. Early on Anat understood the remarkable potentials of the human brain to change and transform the ability of children and adults to move, think, feel, relate, and overcome challenges and reach new levels of performance often believed to be impossible. But she didn’t stop there.

to a point few can match,
let alone surpass.

As Anat observed the remarkable transformations in her clients and trainees on a daily basis, she kept challenging herself with the question of what is it about what she was doing that brought about such transformations in her clients.

She kept inquiring: What are the conditions that awaken the brain to reach new potentials?

Through her extensive and highly successful, in-the-trenches experiences with tens of thousands of men, women, and children the world over—from high performance athletes, business people, scientists, and musicians to people with neurological trauma and tiny babies with severe developmental challenges— Anat Baniel has identified fundamental principles of brain function and change that she calls the Nine Essentials. These principles are validated by brain research.

Dr. Michael Merzenich, the famed “father” of neuroplasticity and author of Soft-Wired: How the New Science of Brain Plasticity Can Change Your Life has written about Anat Baniel’s work, method, and theory:

“. . . I have spent much of my own scientific career trying to understand how we can harness our capacity for brain remodeling for the benefit of children and adults in need of neurological help. From several decades of research, summarized in many thousands of published reports, we scientists have defined the ‘rules’ governing brain plasticity in neurological terms. We now know how to drive brains to change for the better.

It has been a great wonder to me, then, that my friend Anat Baniel, working in parallel along a completely different path, has defined almost exactly the same rules. Moreover, Anat interprets them here in practical and understandable human terms, in ways that should contribute richly to your own more enlightened parenting, grand-parenting, or clinical intervention.”

Dr. Norman Doidge, the author of The Brain That Changes Itself, also recommends the Anat Baniel Method:

“Following in the footsteps of Moshe Feldenkrais…Baniel shows why our mainstream approach…is often wrong, and at times damaging…. The approach here [is], far wiser, far more subtle, truly holistic, far more ingenious, far more in accord with how brain development occurs…”

The ABM approach is revolutionary, yet the Nine Essentials can be adopted by anyone for daily life, or professional use. These brain plasticity principles and function can also guide us in identifying commonly accepted practices in rehabilitation, child education, and health and fitness that limit us and at times can be injurious and help transform them for the better.

More and more leading neuroscientists, medical doctors, educators, therapists, and integrative medicine practitioners are taking interest in the ABM as a source for practical and easy to apply theory and practice that matches the most advanced knowledge of brain functioning and thus has the potential to greatly facilitate in the transformation of how we go about helping ourselves and others heal and do better.

The theoretical and practical knowledge that Anat Baniel has developed and refined over the past 30 years has led to the creation of the Anat Baniel Method. These same Nine Essentials combined with the rich experiential, practical and theoretical knowledge, are the basis for the seemingly miraculous outcomes that the practitioners trained in the ABM witness on a daily basis.

Anat continues to evolve and refine her method. For her it’s a live and dynamic process that never stops. She has written two books, her bestselling Move Into Life: The Nine Essentials for Lifelong Vitality and Kids Beyond Limits that continue to reach more and more people.
